didn't you already make a topic like this?i don't own one so you don't have to believe my opinion but:if you got the money, why not? you got a twin turbo motor with potential as great, if not greater, than the 2JZ-GTE.

yeah.. he's got a few of these threads going.. it's ok though.

"Is an RB26dett worth going through with?" I don't think it is.

That's just my opinion.. here's why I beleive that.

Have you ever driven a 240sx with 300hp at the wheels? How about 400 at the wheels? That is wild... good luck getting traction? If you are building a 1/4 mile race car... go ahead and get an RB26. Most people like to drive to work and back, maybe a little street fun, once in a while drift or autox, or drag. 400hp is plenty for anyone but the most well-funded drag racers.

So if 400 is the top end of your goal... you can get there with an KA, SR, or RB20 or RB25. Most importantly you can get there cheaper and easier with any of those engines choices than you can with the RB26.

The downsides of the 26 are cost, and difficulty to installThe upsides are 1000+hp potential, and lot's of people drooling all over your car.

In short... if you goal is a drivable, managable street car... 400hp will be about as much as you want or need.. in that case, make your life easier and less expensive and choose an RB20 or 25. If you want to build a drag car, and you aren't too worried about the funding... go 26.

Figure out what your goals are first.. post a reply and explain your ideas, and then maybe we can offer some better advice to help you out.

Better yet.. Let me throw an idea out at you... Go RB20det... set your goal at 400hp... here's how you get there. 1.) RB20det engine set for about $1000 + 400 shipping + 400 mounts= 1800 OR RB20det clip $1200 + 600 shipping = $18002.) various maintenance and install parts (water pump 100, fuel pump upgrade 100, custom downpipe 100, clutch master cylander 50, KA speed sensor 50, random other crap 100) = $5003.) Labor for $750---- You should be up and running reliably with 220hp for about $3000 ----

Now upgrade4.) Radiator - $2505.) Exhaust - $3006.) FMIC + piping - $5007.) Turbo (T3/T04e) - $6008.) Q45 or Z32 MAF - $1259.) Intake Manifold and Q45 TB - $70010.) 550cc injectors - $25011.) Adj. fuel pressure reg. - $10012.) Engine Mgmt - $1000---- For less than $4000 you can properly upgrade your car and engine to 400hp at the wheels ----

I think you mentioned a budget of $8000 in a previous thread... try spending the $1000 left over on a set of coilovers for your suspension.

You will now have a very sweet car.
