I was looking at getting a SR swap done but was wondering how relible it would be as a daily driver? I am interested in the swap but the car would be driven everyday and i dont know if a SR is up to the task. Does anyone use a 240 wit a SR swap as their daily driver? Is it more un relible then a normal ka24de?

Thanks

well considering it has less miles than what my 145k+ ka had, yes id say if installed correcty a sr is more if not equal in reliability, lots of peeps as myself have it as a dd

I havn't had any problems with mine. I've put about 6k miles on it. It is my daily driver most of the time.

exactly... SR was a Stock engine in 240's. I have an SR daily drive car since Jan and it has not given me any problems what so ever.

If i would ever get a swap i would worry about getting caught with a JDM motor. I would also worry about smog checks (my bro had a prob with this and he ended up buying a new truck instead).

Is it true that if a cop sees your motor (and know what it is) they can impound your car ? would it be safer to get a Turbo KA instead ? (or is it the same prob?)A KA would pass smog if it was turbo no ?

btw, im a high school student going to college next yr so imagine my situation.

oh and sry for sorta hijacking the thread. i meant clarify probs and offer another route to go.

Yes, it is possible to be caught with a JDM motor if you are not smart about it. Yes, a cop can impound your car for having a JDM motor set. However, if you are smart about it, it's usually not that big of a deal. There are plenty of people running around with JDM motors without getting caught. Cops cannot legally just pop open your hood in most places. Even if they could most cops know jack about JDM engines. Please note though that the police dept in San Diego has trained it's officers to recognize illegal engine swaps. This is the only place in the US that I know of where they have done this. So, if your in SD I would say give it careful consideration before making a decision.
