engine swap 2002 SE-R W/5 SPD

has anybody done an engine swap on an SE-R at home. my friend and I have mechanical experience with cars (mostly older american cars) and are thinking about doing this ourselves. My question is when removing the engine and trans do they come out the top or bottom of the car as an assembly or serparetly and what need to be taken off the car to do this type of job.

THe swap is relatively easy. Just be sure to remember what is plugged into where, I suggest labeling everything so you don't forget. You can pull the motor/transmission together. Out the top or bottom is your choice. You will have to jack the front end up @ least 3 feet off the ground from the bottom of the bumper to get it out the bottom, which requires some big jack stands and using blocks of wood on the jack to reach this point. If you go out the top, remove the hood and angle it out to allow the transmission to come out. Exhaust will have to be removed, cross member, drain anti freeze and remove hoses. Unplug things from the harness, drain transmission fluid, remove axles, remove intake, battery, drain power steering fluid and remove hose from pump.

so the motor and trans can come out the top bolted together? Basically that would make it easier to bolt the trans back together with the engine when installing. what kind of things have to be taken off to remove from the top.

All the electrical bits, cooling system, exhaust, etc. It should be fairly clear once you start taking stuff off

so with the accessories all off the motor can the motor come out of the car from the top with the transmission still attached to the engine.

Yep. It's transverse, so there's nothing extending back to block it anyway.
