Well I'm no expert on the engine like alot of the fellas that are on here are. I'm still new to the engine myself but if they are different then I would say yes you need to get different ones

Does the bolt pattern for the O2 transmission match that of the 07 block? I would think it would be a simple bolt on even if they appeared a little different. I'm going off of assumption, but you'd think they would share the same tolerances if they shared the same bolt pattern.

haha thanks man! I was quite the little photographer that day. That was the first time all summer that I've gotten the car out AND brought a camera to take pictures of it.

I honestly don't know if the bolt patterns are the same but the 02 altima has a 4 speed automatic transmission and the 07 altima has a CVT transmission. If I had to take a guess I would say no it would not fit. If the bolt patterns are indeed the same, yes, you would need to swap the flywheel and torque converter.

Oh ya forgot they got the CVT in 07. How about you try it and let us know how it goes!! You'll be the first to do it and if it doesn't work, just slap a known good 3rd gen 4-speed on there and say you tried.

Who knows if it will even work with the A/T ECU on the 3rd gen because there are no longer shift points with the CVT. This could turn out to be a cool project if you have the resources and another daily driver.

Why are you going to rebuild the engine? Is it shot or are you turboing it or something?

I want to see someone with a 500 hp QR25DET. There are 500 hp 1.6L hondas out there, why have very few people gone the turbo route with this motor?

I'm am really looking at doing this swap, so I've got to bring this thread back.
...Looking at replacing my 2002 QR25DE with a 2007/2009.

My '02 is a 5-speed but the motors I'm looking at are ATs.. surely I'm keeping my transmission if possible.
What kind of work am I looking at here?
What else needs to be replaced?

Should I say forget it and just get a new ride, or look at a different swap? I'm not trying to build a racecar or anything.
someone out there must have done this one already..

interesting idea. i have the qr25de but its a 6 speed manual transmission so right off the back im going to assume it will not fit the transmission from the older models.

Ok, so maybe I'm missing something here, but if you replace your 2002 QR with a 2007 QR, won't the end result be the same thing in terms of performance, etc.?
The '07 engine has basically the same output as the '02, no?
