You have to give more specific details.

My car had a problem where the engine would not go above ~5.5k rpms. Once it hit that speed, the engine would rapidly fluctuate between that and ~5k, shake violently, and have almost no power.

If thats whats happening to you, I may be able to help you :)

that sounds about right, except for the violent shake. i've never realy tried to push it past 5000.

lemme guess you have a manual.

Does it do it in neutral as well? if so one of your gear position sensors are stuck.

unplug both of them or one at a time to find the culprit.

scroll down to my post, it shows where they are on your transmission.

NOTE: This doesnt apply to autotragics!

That was my problem, bad 5th gear sensor. It drove me nuts for months.

it is a manual, and there is no problem in neutral, it revs past 5000 no problem.

sounds like the rev limiter is coming on too soon and cutting fuel to the motor to prevent damage. check the OD sensor on the transmission

check your sensors for continuity with a multimeter, easy to do and will tell you for shure if the sensor is good or bad.
