I had the head shaved and a valve grind done and out everything back together but now when it's sitting at idle it will idle just fine.

But as soon as I touch the gas pedal it seems the engine starts to stall and then it revs up just fine, even if the rpm's are dropping from 3,000 to 2,000 and I touch the gas pedal the engine seems to miss before it responds.

I've run the realtime diagnostics in mode 4 & 5 and checked just about every vacuum hose I can think of but I still can't find the problem.

Help please

p.s. I have also noticed small drops of black crap on the floor from the exhaust, not oily but more like water and black dust mixed up.

Oh.... '90 240SX 193K, Head job done 1K ago along with timing chain and guides, oil changed every 3,000 miles, new plugs, wires, distributer, belts, O2 sensor & battery, Compression test 15K ago, all within 2%

Also the rpm's drop to about 500 occasionally after the engine has warmed up, only for a few seconds and then it returns to normal.

A few times it has stalled on me while comming to a stop (clutch in) when this happens it takes some cranking to get it started and when it finally starts a puff of black smoke comes out of the exhaust.

you are running very rich and it is loading up. You either have a poor connection/bad coolant temp sensor or an airflow meter problem. the soot from the exhaust and the black smoke are the indications of this. do a search on "coolant temp sensor" and/or "airflow meter test" perform the test and inspections one of the 2 will reveal your problem.

I think I fixed it!:ylsuper

I checked the components as directed and they worked OK.

I had an old code for the engine temp sensor and that was working so I cleaned the connector with a fine wire brush and WD40 & electrical contact cleaner, same problem so then I cleaned the MAF (airflow sensor) contacts and also shot the hot wire with air and now the car is running a lot better.

Still a tiny stumble if I press the gas after the EGR has clicked (or what ever that thing is at the back of the engine with a plunger on it) but only sometimes.

Is there any way to fix that? it looks like it used to have a dust boot on it but it's worn away.

Thanks a ton, I wasted so many hours looking for a non existant vacuum leak!
