Last weekend I drove car for 3.5 hours at 75 mph. Stopped for less then 1 hour. Returned to driving, less then 40 miles later, at 70 mph engine shuts off. I was able to restart the car and exit highway. I set for about an 1.5 hours then had a friend follow me home, another 3 hours of driving at 70 mph. Car quit one more time but I was able to restart and contine without problem. Car has run strong all week, no indication of a probem.

This has happened twice now. After first occurance I towed the car home. Was told by Nissan dealer that I had a bad fuel injector. I used dremel method to replace bad injector. After injector replacement the car was running great. Turning about 3000RPM at 75mph in 5th gear. I thought the problem was fixed.

Any suggestions on what to check to determine why engine shuts down at highway speed? There is no warning, all gauges are good. After engine quits I have a check engine light and battery light on. Car restarts without problem and lights go out.

Car has 141,000+ miles. Other then the injector swap I recently completed timing belt/water pump service (about 1000 miles ago) and replaced the battery.

Thanks for the help!

I had a smiliar issue but it was when I would put the clutch in at highway speeds before downshifting car would shut off.....I took the car to a friends garage 1st it was off timing which I had him fix and then he adjusted the idle and problem gone! Hope this helps you out in some way!

did you notice any smells under the hood? like fuel smell, or anything at all ?

if not, check all connections and ohm the rest of your injectors.

@Hec7 : if you have aftermarket air intake, you will most likely have air turbulence while driving at highway speed. search for "flower pod" method.
