hi

im new to this forum, this is my first post so please bear with me if this have been discussed previously

i have the 2003 3.5L pathfinder USA specs

some times (once a week, sometimes 2-3 times a week) i start the car, it starts normally but the RPM will refuse to go above 2K, of and on the engine if im lucky it goes back to normal after like 20 - 30 attempts

local garage said air-mass (changed) then air throttle (changed) sparks and sparks wiring (changed) still no success

if any body have been into this, please advice about the solution

thank you

IIRC, cam angle sensors are known to go bad on those vehicles. Is your check engine light coming on? You could bring it to autozone and get it read for free. You can then google the code, or post it here, or check it in the factory service manual (there's a link in my signature).

A 3.5 wouldn't have plug wires I say you ask your mechanic exactly what he did :squint: ha-ha possibly coil packs?

Perhaps he means camshaft position sensors. Both went faulty on my Pathfinder years ago and threw P1140 and P1145 codes, although after replacement with aftermarket Standard Motor Products sensors the issue went away. These codes never caused starting issues though, or any other perceptible issue for that matter save for the SES light and perhaps a small amount of low end torque loss.

Crankshaft position sensors, on the other hand, could cause starting issues and I have read of other members having starting issues clearing up after replacing one of the CKPS, I believe the one near the bell housing.

What brand of MAF sensor did your idiot mechanic use? I say idiot mechanic because he told you your car has spark plug wires, which it does not as zach said above.

Welcome to NICO.
