What do you guy do when the bolts for the transmission arent long enough to go throught the fingers on your engine stand?

I found out that my Civic's subframe bolts which are very long thread right into the engine .

It's # 18 for the bolts if anyone has ever looked for anything.

Well it's funny that you ask...

I couldn't locate any bolts at my local hardware stores to do the job... they're M14x1.5 iirc...

So I made my own... I bought some steel rod stock, and used my metric tap & die set and threaded some rod. I threaded half as M14x1.5 and the other end as M14x1.75 (which the local hardware stores did have). I used them as studs in the block... you can see the pics in my "It's officially Begun" thread...

What a pain in the *** that was. If I didn't NEED to get the motor onto a stand that night I would have ordered bolts from McMaster Carr.

I haven't had that issue with the stand I have. If anything, the stock bolts were a tiny bit too long so I had to use a washer on a couple of them.

Ahh, ok I get it now. Yeah, if you can get ahold of the stock ones they work really well. They actually fit the holes of the engine stand I have almost perfectly.

I had to enlarge the holes in my engine stand to use the stock bolts, but they were no biggie once the holes were big enough.

Metric bolts are very hard to come by in the states. It would have required ordering at ~$8 a bolt, and then the wait. I needed them then so I made studs myself.

Which pisses me off. Whoever though that making a measuring system that required math to get the next size up is stupid... stupid stupid stupid. I have friends that say they like standard better so I'll give them a socket size and tell them to give me the very next step up. They'll sit there for a second and finally give me an answer. Then I'm like, hey... 12 mm is just a tiny bit to small... must be a 13 or maybe a 14... look, no math. I know it right away. Now wasn't that easy.

Ehhh... I think its time for bed.
