Recently I went to get my versa inspected and they said that everything was cool except my splash guard is all cut up. So im like "WHAAA??" and come to find out that when I took my car do a small shop for an oil change to save myself the hassle, they took it upon themselves to cut through the piece to let the oil drain instead of asking me if it was okay or even trying to remove it(stupid thing to do to a car with only 14k miles). First the dealer told us the part would be like 30-40 dollars and now the person from parts has told us its actually 180 dollars. Any one replaced one of these? I'm finding it hard to believe that it would cost THAT much for molded plastic. Not to mention this shop is going to think I'm screwing them around when I have to tell them that the part actually costs 5 times more than estimated.

Is that required to pass an inspection? Or you're just wanting to replace it. I'm in Florida so we don't have inspections. I am actually going to cut a hole in mine on the next oil change to do the same thing. I'm tired of having to remove it each time. That and I lost a bolt so I zip tie it back each time.

No its not needed, but I want it replaced due to the way they went about it. It's not even that they drilled a big hole to let oil through. You can easily let the oil fall through it and clean it after wards, but it looks like they took a sawzaw to it and it looks pretty bad.

I would get an official quote from Nissan parts and have the previous shop pay for it. I love having them on my cars, helps on the aerodynamics and temperature of the engine bay. Temperature statement has been tested on an s13 with and without the engine splash guard installed years ago when I was bored on a hot summer day.

I was getting ready to drill my stock turbo manifold for my egt sensor, but before I did that I figured I'd test my engine bay temps before installing it into my manifold. Drove the car on the freeway for a few miles and jotted down the coolest temp going and coming. Came back home, installed my engine splash guard and took the same drive. It was cooler by almost 10 degrees farenheit. Every little bit helps.

If you changed your own oil, you would be complaining about how the oil drips on the cover and it's a PITA to clean every time you change your oil. Or, you'd have cut it yourself.

I cut mine after about the 3rd time changing my oil. It's a PITA to wipe it every time. I'd leave it alone and have a nice day.

I don't know about you guys, but I always take my splash guard off when I do my oil changes. It doesn't take longer than 2-3 minutes to take off. Size 10 socket and normally two flat heads will get the job done easily.

I know that its a pain to take off and on for oil changes (or to clean up) but it was just the principle of the matter that they cut it up with out asking me and it was in no way a clean cut just chopped up. So they replaced it and it's all good.
