engine smoking

I just got my 240sx running the other day and now it has another problem. I notcied that the engine is smoking. I realize that the alternator belt was on tight so I loosened it and that the water pump isn't working properly. I also noticed that coolant is backing up into the resovour tank. The engine heats up beczuse of that. I am about to change the tank because of the crack it has in it and the water pump belt. Is there anything else that is wrong with it?

did you mess with the exhaust at all? spill any fluids? what does it smell like?

no i did not mess with the exhaust. Smoke just cames up out of the engine bay. Well it smells like coolant, but mostly water. Im not sure if this would help but the smoke is white.

it shouldnt back up into the expantion tank. test or replace your pressure cap to start with, and go from there. if your pressure cap isnt strong enough, it can open pre-maturely, venting pressure, causing boiling in the system and pushing water(coolant) out.

Hey thanks man I got my coolant fix, it wasnt the pressure cap but it was that somebody didn't connect the pivot screw right and so the belt was lose. Also what does it mean 2 have oil on your spark plugs????

oil on the top of the plugs means leaking valve cover gasket/plug tube seals.oil on the bottom usually means valve seals.
