Hello guys
I want to know if any of you have noticed this before.. I recently started using the manual mode on my car, i never thought it was so much fun until i tried it :gapteeth: (3.5 CVT), i shift when the rpm hits 6000 but i never make it go beyond that (it will shift automatically anyways). But i noticed a smell similar to burning rubber or tire. The temperature gauge is normal, i opened the hood today, the engine was hot (when i touched it) but i guess it is normal. This smell only occurs when i use the manual mode. Did any of you notice this?
I don't have any performance mods, i just added a TGI drop-in competition air filter about a week ago. There is no evidence that something is wrong with the engine, since the weathet here is mostly hot, i notice a blur around the hood all the time (from the heat) so i guess it is normal for the engine to be hot..

sorry I had to bring this thread back to life, but I noticed that this weird smell occurs also when I accelerate really hard (Sprint Booster is addictive :chuckle: ).
I did some research about it, and it seems like it's a common problem. Some people suggested checking the catalytic converter, or gas/oil leak, while others say it is normal due to the air/fuel mixture change while accelerating
I should mention that the AC is always on in my car, and the smell seems to be coming from the vents, I would really appreciate it if people with a 3.5 CVT A/C could check if they have the same problem.

Check your cabin filter, these have been known to get wet(condensation) while using the AC. I've never experienced the smell but I did get my filter replaced at 30k miles.

Just to be clear, ITG makes a cabin filter for our car? I'm talking about the filter just behind the glove box, not in the engine bay.

Can't believe I shrugged this thread off...no offense at all OP

I have the same problem, but not lately. When I took my car to Lake Berryessa, I was in manual mode the complete time, driving for 2 hours up and down the curvy mountain. When I pulled over to take some pics...I smelt it! Smelled like burnt rubber but I just thought it was because I was hitting corners at 40+ mph and the tires were working extra hard. During that time, I did have a borla+y-pipe mod...so maybe that could be it? Did you remove a cat?

I thought this was just a normal condition if you are pushing the car hard and the motors running harder. My dads brand new maxima does the same thing if you floor it.

OK, I thought you were talking about the filter in the engine bay.
I will check that out as soon as possible, thanks! :)

I don't have an after market exhaust system, so it definitely isn't from the borla exhaust or the y-pipe.

Ya as I said earlier, some people say it is a normal thing because the air/fuel mixture will change when flooring the car.

I don't see it as a normal thing, the A/C is not a race car, so I don't think that is supposed to happen under any circumstances.
Anyway, I have to take the car to the service soon, I will let the dealer check it out and I'll update you. :yesnod
Thanks for your replies
