engine skip Z 2.4

have an 87 nissan p/u with a 2.4. the has started to skip like mad. at first no too bad, now alot. some times it stall, other times it just stops for a few minutes. changed the cap and rotor yesterday and the fuel filter several months ago. coils were new last year. I hope that it is not the fuel pump, but something cheaper. any ideas ???

did it get real bad after replacing the cap and rotor? if yes; make sure the cap isnt made in italy. also go over all 8 plug wire locations carfully and be sure you have the intake and exhuast coil wires going to the right coil.

it did not make a difference, when I changed the cap and rotor. I had hoped it would. and the wires are on correctly. I have a feeling that it is the fuel pump. But hoping that it is something cheaper to repair.
