Hey I've noticed that my engine rattles and shakes (alot) visibly when its on. I can see the shaking if the hood's open, and I can feel a little vibration in the car itself.

my question is, is this indicative of the engine not strapped too tight... and if it is, what can i do about it?

Wow, umm, ok, if it's vibrating it could be two things:1) Your engine is actually running rough. Do a tune-up. And to find out what you need to do for a tune up, use the SEARCH function.2) Your motor mounts are shot to s***. Replace your motor mounts. And to find out what you need to do to change the motor mounts, use the SEARCH function.

If it shakes a little bit and your idle is low then welcome to owning a "big" 4 cyl.

yea, all 240's engines shake a little, and you should be able to see them move when looking at them, they are rubber mounted, if the engine itself didnt shake, then all the vibrations would be transfered to the car and you would feel them more.

an easy way to tell if its the mounts or the engine it self is to check the rpms when it is at idle, if they are not fluctuating up and down then it is probaly the mounts. also how many miles on oyur motor

also you could just tune it up like TRPower said. check/get new:spark plugsplug wiresfuel pump-IMPORTANT, may not need new but check itfuel filter-IMPORTANT and noramlly looked overair filtercat. -could be clogged up if oldalso take apart you intake and clean it, there is more than likely goo all over your throttle body and intake. also check your engine mounts and get a compression test on the cylinders if nothing else works. one or more cylinders could have lost some compression and be going bad. . .
