So today I changed the oil for the first time in the '98 Q45. I did everything according to FSM. When I was finished I started up the car and planned to warm it up to check the oil level. Being too anxious to finish the job I realized I didn't put the airbox back in, nor did I plug the sensor in! I quickly shut the car down and put it back together.

I'm uncertain as to whether the following happened with the very next start up or the second but now the "Engine Service Soon" light stays on. Is this coincidence or is it caused directly by my not fully installing the air intake system when starting the vehicle?? Vehicle is at 110,789 miles.

Every car sold since 1996 [about 200 million] have had OBD2 MIL light which shows when any of the 200 monitored circuits are open, shorted or exceed paramaters which materially affect emissions.

Disco sensors and attempting to crank will set codes which must be reset with an OBD2 scan tool.

And please complete your profile so we can help you without requiring you to state location, MY and model.

BTW, the oil filter is properly accessed from the bottom, not the top to avoid problems (and connector wear and damage) like you experienced.

I unplugged the battery for 15-20 mins. Problem solved so far. If it comes back I'll know then, that there is something worth inquiring.

Updated profile. Thanks again!

OP:

Don't worry. It happened to me too. If you ran that code it gives you air flow error or something to that sort since you didn't have it plugged in. I cleared mine with the OBD reader and it went away.
