ok guys so i wake up this morning and drive my 240 over to the park for fresnoracing.com car meet.

park the car there at about 11:45, and it just sits in the parking lot until about 5 pm. i get in the car and start it up and its vibrating BAAAD.

like the car is rocking from side to side. so i open the hood and the motor is moving a TON from side to side. so i shut it off, then start it back up again and check engine light comes on and its still running rough.

so i take off and if i give it anything above slight throttle it starts bogging like.

it will rev all the way to redline but it runs rough and sounds wierd. then randomly it seems to go away for maybe 15 seconds and act normal, then come back.

when its acting funky it either idles really ruf or idles smoothly, but in both cases if you give it much more than maybe 10% throttle it runs very ruff, and revs very slowly.

the car is a 97 240sx with exhaust as the only engine mod.

this just happened out of no where.

what should i do?

Check you mafs. Then check for loose vacuum lines. Then check your o2 sensors. Then check your spark plugs and wires. Go to an Autozone and have them check your CEL codes. They will do it for free. Then you go and look them up online or something. Do not go to the dealership because they will charge you $80 just to look at it and tell you it is broke. Eliminate the obvious and you will be left with the solution.

also i attempted to check the ecu code, here was my procedure:

turn key to on position. turn dial on ecu clockwise, hold for 2 seconds, return to full counter-clockwise position.

ecu flashed 6 slow, then 6 fast.

turn ecu clockwise, hold for 2, return to normal.

turn car off.

start car, no check engine light. drive for about 1 min, come home and check code again.

6 slow then 6 long.

according to this -> http://www.240sx.org/faq/artic...h.htmthat is a cyl 3 misfire.

which is basically what it feels like. its not idling rough when i drove it for that min, idle and revs up to redline just feels like its reving rough, like a misfire.

so WHAT CAUSES THIS??????

yeah so after i found out it was cyl3 i took the spark plug out and checked it.....looked good. pulled the cyl2 plug for reference, if anything the cyl2 plug looked worse.

pulled the spark plug wire off the distributor, and put it back on.

put both plugs back in, hooked up both plug wires.

voila

sorry for being such a nub to 240's and not figuring it out before i posted.

but it took me awhile to find info on how to check ecu codes for 97, cuz most stuff referes to obdI computer.

does the obdII computer have an led? cuz mine didnt, i had to use the check engine light.
