Engine revs high by itself?

I just swapped in an S13 SR20DET into my 240sx, I got everything hooked up, and tried to start it, finding that it only cranked, but didn't start. I thought I might have my CAS plug backwards (the cap is broken and has no plug shroud) so I turned the plug around so the clip faced toward my valve cover, after which it started, but now every time I start it, it continuously revs up to 2500rpm by itself, kind of bouncing up to it repeatedly.

Anyone know or have any thoughts as to what I have done wrong, or what could be wrong?

Have you checked the throttle cable connector at the throttle ...?

There might be a little tension on it pulling it slightly open.

Yeah I checked the throttle cable, to no avail unfortunately...

It also sounds like my lifters are hitting something, and when I shut off the engine, the whole car shakes..

Wow man, looks like I was wrong in dismissing your suggestion so quickly! I guess I didn't notice at first that the throttle cable was too tight.

Although, now when I start it, all I can smell is gas, and it has a very loud knock

Any insight?
