I am looking to buy a ka24de and rebuild it. I am not sure if I should buy an "engine rebuilding kit" or buy the parts separately. I am on a tight budget and cannot buy performance everything and spend a lot. I have an engine rebuilding kit in mind. I just want some feedback to see whether it is good or not to buy. If you have any suggestions or comments feel free to say something.

Here is the engine kit:

I'd suggest straying away from ebay for something like that. Rebuilds are generally pretty costly and are a major overhaul on the motor. The idea of pistons and a complete gasket set for $400 makes me cringe at the thought of how shoddy the quality must be. Additionally the fact they have "timing belt (if chain application - not included but can be added for additional charge)" means you're not getting that so don't let that sway your decision.

Although the price may be attractive, depending on what you do with this car - daily driver or dyno queen, a rebuild is not really where you want to cut any corners on quality. My suggestion is to call Midway Parts team for OEM parts after you tear down the bottom end and get the sizings for the bearings. The some of the tools get expensive as well if you plan on doing this yourself. My suggestion is if you don't have any of the tools to do a rebuild, send it to a machinist who can give you a "package deal" for a list of work that needs to be done.

right now im in the process of rebuilding my ka24de...it's not an easy task rebuilding motors. You have to measure clearences at various places, you'll need lots of tools, time and make sure you mark components, bolts, take pics if you have a digital camera, and dont' loose your timing. Im not doing anything special just a rebuild; gaskets, main/crank bearings, piston rings, etc...If you have time and have some tools i'd recommend a rebuilt, you'll learn a hell of alot

Hey,got the same engine rebuild kit,but got from advance auto, master rebuild, cost me about 500 buck,to install it by a mechanic, charge me 245,and to 300 for to send it off and have a shop put it together, so it was about a grand total. after a month, having exhaust leek, and when i have the car park for awhile then start it up again,it does not spudder,it sound like it's not getting enough gas,but if i press the gas it goes back to normal. Sorry if i got of topic, but do go cheap on it.

180fan - Yeah I really didnt know If I could trust ebay or something so cheap. I went to MidwayPartsTeam.com and they didnt have anything for a 240, only a 350z. Do I have to go to the Parts Inquiry or Parts Order? Do they have full kits there?

L_adan_C - I realize it takes time and tools but what did you use to rebuild your KA? A kit, seperate parts?

yougun21a - I am not sure if you are telling me if the kit is good or not. lol.

1-866-271-0502 ask for Mike.

They're not going to have "kits" persay, I believe for the gasket sets they do though. But everything else will depend. To keep costs down, I'd probably keep the pistons you've got in there now and replace the rings and have the block cleaned and honed.

I didn't replace the pistons(no need, unless they're damaged), i replaced every seal, main and crank bearings, piston rings, sent the heads out with new seals, front and rear seals and camshaft bolts. I bought parts indepently except for the head gasket kit. Total i spent maybe $350 for all parts, and another $190 for the head job.
