Whats a reasonable price to rebuild an engine? I know for a dohc swap this shop quoted about $400. But I havent asked them about a rebuild yet. It would only involve bearings, piston rings, head gasket, and some valve adjusting. (with the installation of a intake and header while they're at it) [anything else major I need to replace as well?].

About how much should it be?

well rebuilds cost from 1600-2200. They clean everything up and use a rebuild kit most of the time. If you want performance cams or anything aftermarket droped in while they are doing it they can drop it in for you.

Ah, I was under the impression that I would give them the pieces I want rebuild/replaced and they would charge based on that (and/or per hour).

So usually a shop has its own process of rebuilding?

I was trying to decide on whether or not to just get a DOHC or rebuild this one.
