engine rebuild questions

Hey, two quick questions about rebuilding my ka24et. First, the forge marks on the rods, between the big and small ends, do they face forward? Or the bore numbers on the big end, do they face exhaust or intake? Also, anyone know off the top of their heads the number of links on the timing chain between the crank and head sprockets (punch mark to punch mark)? Thanks a bunch

There should be a dot on the pistons which is the guide mark.
