I gotta replace my piston rings so I figured while I'm in there I'll just completly rebuild it with forged pistons and rods and now bearings. Is it possible to do with just your basic tools or should I take it to a 300 shop?

I would recomend you pull and teardown your engine to short block and take the short block to the shop (not a bad idea to have the heads checked surfaced, valves lapped and new stem seals while you're at it) the shop can make sure your cylinders and bearing surfaces are in within spec and they'll clean out allt he oil and coolant passages while they are at it, it's also a good idea to replace the freeze plugs as these things age the ones int he valley are prone to rusting

$2500 for what? forged pistons, I beam rods ballancign and clueprinting, yeah thats about right, a basic no frills rebuild with the basic rings and bearings will run you around 1k, when you add an 800 set of pistons and 600 rds to the mix the price is gonna go up, you need to determine what your goal is then decide what is needed to achieve that goal

2500 just for the assembley that's not including the pistons and rods I'm buying the complete rebuild kit with forged pistons and rods and new bearings with the complete gasket set as well all for 1500 is that a good price?

1500 for forged pistons and bearings and gaskets is a but high but 2500 for machinign is stupid high, unless they are pullign the motor and doing the complete teardown and reinstall?
