While doing some reading on a Nissan Altima forum I ran into something interesting dealing with engine rattles on cold startups. Awhile back there was a thread that addressed this in the form of all sorts of possibilities.

On the Altima forum the cause was found to be an oil filter with a bypass valve that rapidly opened and closed when the oil was cold. I have a feeling that this happens more often than many realize and simply goes unnoiticed. Seems to be a consensus that Nissan makes a very good reliable oil filter.

Pfarmer you seem to know a lot. I just got my g35 coupe today but it does not come with nav. What's the best nav, dvd,cd (touchscreen) combo out on the market today? Pioneer?

I would go with the Pioneer since I have used them for years and never any problems. Most have 4 built in channels either RCA or direct to speaker. As far as the Infiniti speakers it may be the time to replace them as well since to use most after market systems you will need to impedance match them anyway.

First step may be to go with the Pioneer using its built in amp. Run the wiring extra long to start with to where you would most likely mount an aftermarket amp later on. When you build up your coffers and want to expand the system you then can remove the extra length and run RCA cables from your head unit to the aftermarket amp, you will be prewired to your installed speakers at this point.

I am not familiar with how the speaker wiring gets into the doors on you car but if it involves a plastic type of passage which is common in many other cars it may be best to add another boot of some sort and make a second path for your new speaker wires since many OEM speakers have somewhat anemic wiring to the OEM speakers although they may well be large enough for you to get away with them.

If you do open the doors to replace the speakers and/or wiring now take the time to sound insulate the door as well. This is the one place I find my OEM setup in my 2008 to be lacking.
