Engine rattle only when AC is running

Hello I'm new,

Last Week I picked up my 2008 Altima 2.5SL Majestic Blue And have put 500 miles on it in 7 days Today I was showing of the engine compartment to a friend while the engine was running and the AC turned on I noticed a soft knocking sound coming from below the alternator. it didnt sound right so I turned the Climate control OFF and the sound stopped, turned on the AC and it started again. So I took it to the dealer service dept, Mechanic listened to It and said "Its not supposed to sound like that" He then told me he will order a new belt and compressor and call me when they arrive to install them. My Questions are:1) Shouldnt he have done more discovery before diagnosing the parts to order? 2) Has anyone ever heard of this happening to anyone else?

I love my Car but this does worry me a little

Next week Dealer is paying for Tint and Sunroof ventshade install Cant Wait!

My coupe does the same thing. When I took it to the dealer, they said nothing was wrong. I got kind of mad, and ended up taking a brand new 2.5 out for a test drive, and sure enough, it made the same sound. I still think something is wrong though, because my car didn't do it when it was new. I guess I'll find out if something was wrong when it blows up or something.

Me too have the same problem. My car started making this knocking sound even before 1000 kilometers. I had the service center check it the very first time and they said it is normal with all altimas. So thats it. I am taking my car for the 20000 kilometer service and will report htis problem again. Ithink i will also check out another altima 2.5se to see if it has the same problem. It is a damm annoying noise especially when you are parked with the aircon on for a long time. I think Nissan should learn a bit more about refinement.

i used to get this noise im pretty sure. If its like a metal rattling sound? I took it to an auto shop, they lifted my car up and looked underneath, turned out to be just a loose bolt somewhere under the engine. they tightened it and its been fine ever since. (for free too)
