Alright so here is the scoop..I got a 90 NA with currently 63000 miles...The thing runs like a dream, but there is this noise that i cant figure out. I have had a few people listen to it, but noone seems to know exactly what it is, so i figured id ask on here.

No matter what, when the engine revs up to around 1900-2000rpm, i get this rattling sound. It is this creaky-rattling sound....but it only happens when my car is hitting those revs. It happens for a split second, then stops, even if i hold it at 2000rpms...but then as soon as i let off the throttle it will rattle again. Even when i am driving no matter the gear, it rattles once it hits 1900-2000rpms on the way up and on the way down. This doesn't happen anywhere else in the rpm band, only right around 2000. As far as i know, it isnt causing any issues with how the car is running, as i said it runs perfectly fine. Im just trying to firue out what this noise is, because its becoming an annoyance at this point. Whenever it rattles...it sounds like it is smack in the middle on the top of the engine. I can try to get a video of it and get it on here, but it will have to be tomm so i dont wake up all of my neighbors.. haha. But does anyone have any ideas?

and please dont ride me about using the search bar..i did and i didnt find jack. haha

*** here is a video so you guys can actually hear it..***

I had the same exact problem on mine. I took it to a couple of mechanics and they all said it's bad, that it sounds like it's going to throw a rod. My car has 180K, so of course I knew the time was coming. I spent the whole weekend removing the bottom of the engine and it turns out that one of the rod bearings on piston #1 wore out the notch that keeps it locked in on the rod cap. The noise was the rod bearing free spinning between the rod and the crankshaft. I have ordered new bearings and am hoping that will fix the problem.

just in case anyone else has the same problem, i fixed it by replacing the VTC gear springs with "heavy duty" ones from JWT. simple fix...completely got rid of the rattling :dblthumb:
