Engine Question

Maybe I'm just a nOOb...but I never noticed this until recently. When I go down a steep hill, I let go of the gas pedal. However, my car revs up from 1500 RPM to 3500+ RPMs for no reason. Once I step on the gas again, it revs down to the correct RPMs. I'm driving a 2.5S with the CVT. Is this the correct behavior?

It's "shifting" down into a lower gear ratio when it reads that you're letting off the gas a.k.a. you want to go slower. It's the same as a conventional automatic transmission down-shifting.
