Hey guys, I was wondering what the best way is to pull these engines. Specifically these points.

A. Exhaust? just unbolt the flange and manhandle it out of the way?

2. Separate engine and trans or leave together?

D. Pull engine up and out or drop and yank?

To give you example of my background, I'm working on dirt with jacks and cinder blocks, I do have an engine lift though. With the dodges, the downpipe from the turbo has a swing valve a few inches away, so it just unbolts there. I usually pop the ball joint from the hub, swing the rest out of the way, drop the engine/trans still connected on the ground, then yank the whole assembly out trough the wheel well. The nissan looks a little more complicated.

I just take the hood off and pull the engine and transmission out the top... unbolt the header and pry it off

I just swapped and reinstalled the sohc motor. Disconnect driveshaft and transmission mounts and unbolt engine mounts.Unhook where your mani and exhaust connect.Just pull out the engine with mani and all accesories.Just be sure to have everything disconnected. Yes remove your hood.Pull engine out with transmission.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll have to get one of those nifty crank-to-adjust-balance things for my engine lift.

if you ever get on a lift i like to drop the s13 powerplants through the bottom with the full suspension. easy. it makes the powertrain look like some kind of giant insect with wings made out of macpherson struts.

That sounds like a good idea, I'll probably go that way.
