I have a 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5l with 152,000 miles. When I first start it in the mornings it starts OK. However, if I turn it off and try to restart after 30-45 minutes it is very difficult to start. It appears like it is flooded and it is hard to crank. I do not push on the accelerator but just turn the key. Also if I leave it for 3 or 4 hours and try to start it -- it starts easily. I have had a fuel pump replaced. A trottle position assembly as well as both thermostats replaced. Today they replaced a PCV. I had new platinum plugs put in at 138,000 miles. The computer does not indicate any type of codes.

Has anyone had similar problems or can assist me in finding out what is wrong? It is back in the shop for the fifth time and I am without a car again. PLEASE HELP!

next time it acts "flooded", before you start cranking, put your foot all the way to the floor on the accellerator. This should effectively "clear out" a "flooded" fuel injected engine. I'm willing to be that there is something about it in the owners manual

Oh, and if it is "flooding" out, then you might have some leaking injectors/injector seals (not too familiar with which style of injection this vehicle has)

Thanks shift_mikey for your reply. The auto shop that has the car just pulled all the injectors to check for leaks. They didn't find any.

read your problem and believe it has nothing to do with the things you have checked or received advice about. i believe the problem is with what nissan refers to as the "crankshaft position sensor." symptoms are mostly car stalling out and not restarting when engine warms up. there is a national recall about to go into effect. for more info call 1-800-647-7261. hope this helps.
