I posted this in the tech forum but I know there is alot of 5 speed swap experiance with you guys so maybe someone can help me out...

"Is there anything I could have done while doing a 5 speed swap to make make the engine blow?I did the swap back in july with a perfectly good running KA. After completing it i started up and noticed immediatly the starter sounded alot different. also a knocking noise became apparent from the front of the head. Ignorantly I somehow rationalzed the knocking noise as the chain guides and the starter sounding weird because of the defferent flywheel

about 400 miles later the knocking got louder and i ended up putting a rod and piston through the side of the block. I decieded i must have ****ed up the oil pump when i placed the jack under the pan to remove/install the trannys.

i had a shop install a junkyard ka to get me up and running again. They called me to say it was ready to be picked up but there was a slight chain rattle but it was a sound motor. I said ok its a typical problem with those motors and went to pick it up.

I start it up and notice the weird starter noise along with the original knock again. I drive it about 10 miles and return it to the shop satisfied that its the same exact problem the last motor had.

sorry for the long story but hopefully these symptoms sound familiar to somone on here. I dont understand what I could have ****ed up when i put the transmission in. My buddy thinks it might be something with the flywheel, which would explain the starter noise but I dont see how it could make a noise in the head which than causes the motor to blow. also, they used the 2nd motors flywheel.

To me it sounds like the motor isnt getting oil but then whats the starters problem, I am sure they are related.

any help would be great, I searched but I cant put my finger on it."

did you take the upper chain guide off the the new motor? if it's already off, then the tensioner is gummed up. if it were the oil pump the light on ur dash would turn on warning you, (if it works) i haven't the slightest idea about the starter sound. did they use the same starter on the new motor?
