My friend and I just finished swapping engines in his 1993 Toyota Camery... just put in another stock engine because the first one was completely blown.
Anyways we got it in, fiddled with a few things and got it to start up. It idles decently (although sorta low.. around 500 sometimes), but then after about 20 seconds it starts bogging down and running really crappy, like all lopey like it has huge cams or something... then it dies.
We can rev it up and it sounds decently, but if you mash the throttle to WOT at any point, the engine will bog down for a second, then catch up... then once you go back down to idle the engine will have a hard time keeping itself alive.
There is also this weird hissing sound coming from someplace around the intake manifold, but we cant find it at all... we gave up on it and thought that maybe its just the injector sound, which it really could be..
We also were thinking that maybe it might be air in the fuel system, but we dont know how to purge it... anyone know? Also perhaps it's timing? Before we dropped the engine in though I made sure it was at TDC ("0" on the timing marks) and the distrib was pointed right at #1.
Can you guys think of what this might be? Weve been fiddling with it all day and really just cant figure it out. Please help!
