i have a front engine oil seal leak on my 95. and also there is odorless vapor/smoke shooting up from my shift boot (look as if boiling water shooting from tea kettle)

mechanic said that the oil could be getting swept back unto the exhaust pipe. (but oil would smell right?) so fixing the leak and cleaning under would solve both problems........

i get it back and it seems to be dripping more, and now it smells like burnt fumes........

what could it be?

all help DEEPLY APPRECIATED

um...around your shift boot? did you check the transmission fluid, and or for an exhaust leak? Those are the only two things I can think of in that general proximity.

its transmission fluid probably. my transmission was trashed and barely had any gear oil so i was getting the vapor from the shift boot too. i swapped out the transmission + filled it with gear oil = no more problems. good luck

well, i was swappin trannies so i had the whole thing out. but basically, remove your shifter, not too difficult but you'll need some snap ring pliers. then you'll see the hole to fill it [use a funnel]. might think about draining it first since you're putting new clean oil in there, get rid of the old. the drain plug is underneath the bell housing. not too hard to find
