This is a double post in the Nissan Online Mechanic as well: zerothread/179729

My 240SX suddenly is very noisy like a truck diesel engine. And it would not go away.I opened the Valve cover and found pieces of plastics everywhere...Idle is fine, oil pressure is not there, I left my oil filter off, and no oil coming out. I am afraid the oil pump is gone.

I took picture of the timing chain, it seems fine. Maybe the guide is not, its hard to see from top.

Any ideas?

Is the engine okay, so I can repair the needed parts or should I save for new engine?

early single cam ka had a plastic timing chain guide, which will shatter over time. yours has done so. if you do not fix the problem now your timing chain will rub a hole in a coolant port of you front housing causing oil and water to mix.

How can I make sure the oil gets to top of head/valves? Looks like the plastics from timing guides are not allowing oil to come to top.Is there a way to clean it up?

Or will it clean it self after I do the timing works?

when you pull off the front cover it will expose you guide and your tensioner. you can pull them off straight from there. as far as the plastic goes you will have to pull of the oil pan to clean it out. when you put it back together you might have to loosen the head. i did not when i did it and it rinkled my head gasket up a lil. it was mostly a pain in the *** but i got it togther and it did not leak afterwards. i spent about a hundred dollars when i did, but i replace water pump thermostat belts and tensioner when i did it. good luck just ask if you need more details.

What do you mean by loosen the head? Is that because the timing cover would push the head away from bottom end? Thank you for your help.

when you are putting the front cover back on. you should loosen the head or oil pan enough so you can slide the front cover back into place. it fits on there so tightly that any room you could clear up by either loosening the head or oil pan would make the job easier and shorter.
