Hey,

My car ran fine then the alternator died. I replaced it, and now my car runs too hot. I took off the radiator hose to have easier access to the alternator, but I put it back on and there are no leaks. Does anyone have a clue what this could be?

Matt

Did you bleed the coolant lines after replacing the hose? Air pockets in the coolant can easily create overheating problems.

I assume you refilled the radiator to capacity after you hooked it all back up? Did you check you radiator cap? Maine is right, but I've never heard about bleeding coolant lines.

yes, there's a bleeder screw around where the upper radiator hose goes toward the intake manifold.

first....bleeder screw = 10 mm bolt to the right of where the raditor hose connects to intake manifold?

second...just unscrew it to release all air, or what is the procedure?

Thanks!

yea, just unscrew it. i think it's 10mm. it's pretty small. i just remember that it's a ***** to reach.

if you have the ka24de engine, the screw is out in plain view and you can open it using a 10mm socket. Unscrew it completely, fill up your radiator with coolant, turn on your engine, and fill up the radiator some more until coolant starts spilling out of that hole. Cap it up and take it for a spin.

Make sure your car is level AND that the engine is cold. If it overheats after that, then you might want to replace your thermostat.

And if it still overheats after a new thermostat..... try testing the thermostat!!! My recent overheating dilemma would have been significantly less expensive had I tested the new one first.

I get the air out the old fashion way.. once I fill it up just keep the cap off the radiator and start her up.. the ait pocktes will come out on their own.. I learned that while working at a shop a while ago as a summer job.
