hello everyone, I wanted to know which engine oil viscosity is best recommended for my vehicle which currently has about 80k miles. I bought it new and used 10w-30 but I wanted to know what oil is best to use during summer driving conditions. Should i continue using 10w-30 or make a switch and use 10w-40 for the summer? Thanks in advance -Victor

10-w30 will work just fine.

I use 10-30 in spring/summer and 5-30 in fall/winter, only because it was taking awhile to warm up when it was cold out.

the only ones you should use are 5w30 and 10w30. 5w30 is better for cold starts - nissans are kinda known for noisy and rough starts when they have the wrong oil - it will start up all noisy and clattering.... i forgot what the temp. properties of each are, seeing as there is no "winter" here in San Diego

I run 5W30 Mobil1 synthetic year round. It's noticeably better in winter. It doesn't thicken up when cold, or thin out when hot. It costs more, but I think it's worth it. You can also run a little longer between oil changes when using synthetic. It doesn't break down as quickly. Hope this helps.

hey, would 0w40 mobil1 be okay in my wife's Qx4? I had that available from my BMW and Mercedes, and then realized it says "european car formula" on it.

I wouldn't... our nissans are very picky when it comes to oil... they really only run right on 5w and 10w..... even the factory recommended 10w causes rough starts.... but if your pathfinder is leased, id put whatever in it.

I run 10w30, and so far we've had a mild winter. . maybe 19 degrees at the coldest. The vehicle takes about 3 minutes at most to warm up to the point where the heater works and the seats are warm.

I run this year round, but we haven't had any cold days yet.

My S13 and S14 240sxs would both take something like 10-20 depending on the weather. I hated that. I'd already be at work before it ever got warm.

What about for my 2003 Pathfinder SE, which oil is good for it year round. I would not like changing oils for different seasons. What are the differences between these oil types? Which is the perfered brand for you guys?

10w30 is for "warmer" temps, by warmer i think they mean above 0* F 5w30 is all temperatures.

Haha, you guys are way too kool! OK so I think I'm sold on the 5w30 then. But can I just add 5w30 to my pathfinder not knowing whats in there already, thinking there's a high chance of 10w30 or do I absoluately have to drain out the existing oil first? Which brand of oil do you guys prefer, mobile?

Depends on how picky you are about your pathy. If you don't care much, just dump it in. If you love your baby, get an oil swap done.

Technically, it's not good to mix grades. But in the end, it's all just oil.
