Quick question,

I know that the oil consumption is a big issue for our cars, but mine is probably not at the point where i can get a new engine, but i will continue to monitor.

But in the mean time i would like to add some more oil to my car. The instruction manual some anything 5W-30, so i went to the store and bought some Mobil 1 fully synthetic 5w-30 thinking that it was the best type. However when i compared to the manual it didnt seem to be right the manual says i need SJ grade and the Mobil 1 was a different grade.

Does anyone know if it is ok to put the Mobil in my car?

I will assume that mobil 1 is good enough as I have it in my car and have not had any isses. Get it at Wal-Mart..it is the cheapest. I do not think I have an oil consumption issue with my 03. THe brakes do sound like **** though.

Summary: Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-30 will be perfectly fine for your car!

Generally speaking, the "SJ" in the manual means you can use anything that is "SJ or higher", and, as I recall, the Mobil 1 Synthetic is SL, so it is a good API grade to use.

I think in the manual Infiniti recommends "5W-30 Energy Conserving", but you can easily use 10W-30 or 10W-40 or even the Mobil 1 0W-40 (which is what I like), since they all meet the API grade requirement.

As far as I recall, 10W-30 would also classify as "energy conserving", and the Infiniti manuals says that it is okay to do this, but this would only be recommended in summer months or if you are in southern US areas in the winter.
