Have Rogue 2009 S AWD- no frills

Recently odor from engine after car heated up and really noticeable when at a stop. have to keep air circulation button on all the time. When you leave car really can smell it and opening up hood

Spoke to a Service Manager who said it is the CVT transmission fluid and he has received a few calls but suggested no fix.

As misery loves company, anyone else have this issue or heard about it or other engine odors and what is being done about it. thanks

There have been a few reports of a 'burning' smell during the first 3-4 months of ownership. It's caused by undercoating spray and oils that are on or near the exhaust system. The heat from the exhaust system causes them to evaporate creating a light burning odor. Eventually the odor does dissipate.

My Rogue did this for the first 4 months or so. Especially when it was hot outside. It did subside and now I don't smell it anymore.

THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS THAT YOU THINK IT IS THE EXHAUST. Then why the srvice mgr. saying CVT transmission fluid???

Definitely coming from the engine area. I compare the odor to self-cleaning an oven around 400 degrees anf the odor that comes from it

I wouldn't worry about unless the following occurs:

1 - You have smoke and flame coming from the engine compartment.

2 - The smell does not disappear after 3-4 mos.

I noticed the odor on our 09 S awd. Odor is gone at 1000 miles and didnt make note of when it stopped. I wouldn't worry about it.

Peace

Every new car will smell like this for the first few months, but that explanation about something to do with the transmission fluid makes no sense whatsoever. Unless there was a leak, how would you smell the transmission fluid in a sealed unit? And if it was leaking and causing a stink, this wouldn't be something "he has heard of a few times but has no solution for", it would be a routine fix for them to replace the leaking seal etc. or replace the entire defective transmission on warranty. That is definately one of the weirdest stories I've heard in a while!!

Anyway, like everyone else said if it doesn't go away in a few weeks, 3 months max, then you may have a problem but most likely it's just nothing to worry about!
