Car: 1991 240sx, with pignose and sohc motor--WTF was i thinking

Post

I just swapped my sohc engine that previously started and ran with no problems to a cleaner dohc chassis. I made sure to plug everything back in and all seems to be well.

However, now when i turn the key, the car wont crank. The fuel pump turns on and i can hear a faint click in the engine bay. The battery is brand new and so is the starter. The starter isnt even turning and when i bridge the solenoid the starter turns, but the engine doesnt(but that's another issue for another time and place).

The main question is wtf could be wrong and what tests should i try to find out the problem. The nuetral safety switch has power and it works. Im just trying to think of all the things that could be wrong, but nothing comes to mind. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, i need this car to get to work tomorrow and would like to try to fix it during the day.

To turn over an engine only needs power to the starter and to be well grounded. If your relay clicks, your starter is getting the signal to turn over, except, its probably not well grounded therefore the starter is not moving

I have the exact same issue!

My battery is chargedEngine is in great conditionJust replaced starter

and engine will not crank.

I have the same clink noise but no turn over. I will check my ground on the starter.

(After I installed my new starter, my car didnt' start right away. I had to mess with the ignition a bit and somehow it decided to start up. )

I'll keep you posted.

alright, i checked wiring harness and made sure that was plugged in all the way. After doing that, i heard a click from the car. Not sure what part it came from but i heard a click. ? I follow the ground through the wiring harness to the fuse box, jiggled some wires, checked my neg on the battery. Then i went to start the car.

It started up. I turned it off and started it back up a few times. Its not starting up as healthy as before though. So im going to check the battery again.

Otherwise, Im good to go. Thanks Chicos for the advice and Steinkrunk, good luck with your car.
