My honda does that. I think it's the valves clicking. I switched over to synthetic oil and that seemed to greatly reduce the noise...don't ask me how.

if it is a stock KA motor then it could be valvetrain noise or the timing chain/tensioner the first thing to do would be to isolate the noise to the upper part of the engine or the front cover and go from there

some people say it could be the rod or a bearing on a rod thats screwed?

how exactly could i check if its the timing chain/tensioner? because some people tell me its that as well...

If its more of a "tick" sound, then it could be the valves or the timing chain, if it is more of a clack or slap sound then it could be rod bearings or crank bearings or piston slap. Either get a piece of water hose or a screw driver and place it to your ear and the other end to the engine and try to isolate the noise. It will act as a stechescope.

mine does it too. 242000 miles can't be too go for a motor. I listened around and it sounds like it's coming from the downpipe. I've never heard of a downpipe making that noise before but I'm 100% positive thats it.(on my car) Try listening under your car.
