engine noise lack of power

my friend brought me his 93 j30t. he said it is lacking power. i found a vac. hose off. fixed that. no improvement. it sounds funny. i checked the coils and plugs all good plugs look great. but cant determine the noise sounds like it on pass side. also when driving it surges a bit. any ideas? no cel is on or codes. any tell me where i can find a tach wiring dia.? the tach no work he said i was a new cluster but someone has cut and spliced some wires.

no ecu codes at all???strange..sounds like possible knock sensor...that WILL throw a code but not a CEL...diagram can be found in the FSM @ Phatg20.com

only thing he really said that happen was his wife ran over a park curb but i highly doubt that is the prob. i got a code 55 which means all good to my understanding.

What do the fuel injectors OHM at?

When were the spark plugs replaced?

What oil do you use?

Do you have proof of 3000 Mile oil changes or how clean is the oil fill hole?

I would clean the MAF sensor and examine the board which requires you to remove the black RTV around the sqare top.

Knock sensor only retards Timing.Wont cause a noise on the passenger side.

he said the plugs were changed last year they r ngk. nice and white looking. i dunno what the injector ohm out. could u tell me what the spec is or where to find the spec. i will check n morning or tonight if i get bored. the oil looks like it needs changed. i was gonna tell him to use a thicker oil now that it is warming up outside. thanks for the quick responses guys.
