Yea so back in December, had bent valves from screwed up timing job (bro didnt tighten camshaft enough) took my head off, had it completely rebuilt including new valves that were bent. Finally get around to putting it all back together. Start the car today for first time, turns right over and starts up, but...sounded like this http://home.comcast.net/~wildc...e.mp3 THEN it quieted down after a few minutes and now only in the rear of the engine on the 4th cylinder i suppose, it makes that noise (but not as loud). I did not run the car for too long, maybe 15 minutes, but the sound didnt go away. I used 5w30 oil. Seeing as how I payed for new head job, could it be a bad lifter? Injectors dont click like that right? Because I had put another one on the 4th cylinder cause old one was cracked. The engine runs perfectly smooth, revs fine, idles perfectly dead on. Or maybe oil pump not getting enough oil back there? I dunno. And if it is lifters, how hard are they to replace?

injectors do make a ticking noise but not quite as loud as the lifters do. its possible there is just air trapped in the lifter. It likely drained of oil as long as it sat. If its not ungodly loud take it for a gentle drive and see if it goes away.

Will do today. It really isnt that loud, especially with hood closed so hopefully your right and it will go away.

WELL after some driving for another 15 minutes, oil light comes on and I think the noise spread to the front of the valve train again which means...oil pump right? Oh and do injectors always click? If i put a screwdriver to the injectors I hear each one clicking.

Hi bob,

The injectors do make noise - it's the solenoids clicking. Usually once you close the hood you can't hear the clicking anymore.

Well after that fiasco with the oil pressure I put a new oil filter on, and that made the light go away and the clicking to stop for the most part(went away from front of valve train). It still sounds like one of the lifters is making noise in the back of the engine. Its pretty quiet at idle, especially with hood closed. But once I rev the engine(not killing it or anything just normal driving) the clicking gets louder and faster(This was even after about 45 minutes of running/driving).

your gonna have to pull this lifter out and manually bleed it in a tank of oil. you need to completely submerge it and poke a blunt needle in it to allow oil into it.
