Hi All,

I've finally figured out what the hollow knocking was about in my 03 I35. I recently posted about the knocking noise coming from my front end, i suspected it to be smth in the suspension. I replaced mt stabilizer links along and had my shop check everything from a to z. Everything seemed fine but the sound persisted. Finally I realized that it might be my engine mounts and sure enough two out of three of them were cracked letting my engine play too much in the engine bay thus making the sound. With labor it will cost me 780 to replace all three. The price is so steep because these are some fancy mounts with sensors on them. The sound isnt bad enought to bother me too much ... My question is ...if i dont get them replaced will tis escalate into smth more serious and ends up costing much much more???? My mechanic said that theres no chance my engine will get detached leter on down the road... I want to trust him but it never hurts to make sure...

Thanks very much ,,

Rod Erenburg....

There is 0 chance that your engine will fall out the bottom of your car. You can order actually order polyurethane to fill your stock mounts and make them stiffer.

Whether you want your mounts stiffer if up to you, polyurethane will normally transfer engine vibrations to the chassis more so than stock engine mounts.

You can replace the electronic front mount with one from a maxima with a manual transmission and that should save you a bit of money.
