Recently, when I turn left a little hard, I hear noises coming from the front. I showed it to a mechanic and he told me that one of the mounts is weak and has to be changed. However, he said that he has to lift all the engine to change it and that will take a lot of labor hours.Another mechanic said that it will take at most 40 minutes without lifting the engine.

Does anyone know the labor amount for changing the engine mount? Also, which mount do you think could go bad? The mechanics didn't tell me the details. I think there are 4 and all of them are different.

thank you guys

They will all go bad. They are made of rubber and silicone -- really just big bushings. Like the rack and suspension bushings they get old and lose their cushening. Worse they can fail and allow the drive train to sag and alter the alignment (ie. noises, cluncks, etc.). I think I recall others stating that 100K to 120K is the life expectancy. I am not sure about labor but this has been discussed before and a search may turn up more info.

Austin, thank you for the info. Just to make sure, I wanted to try another tech.

Last weekend, I went to another tech. He found out that the mounts are all good. The real problem was the sway bars. They were in a very bad condition. Almost dead.

He changed both of them. My J30 is now noise free, like its first day :> It made so much difference.

Sway bars or their bushings and end link rubber mountings?

I think they were all together. I am not sure if it is possible to buy as smaller parts. The tech has decided to change them all. One of the sway bars was around $45 at Advanced Auto Parts. And it is a very easy DIY job for J30. It is right behind the front wheel. It should take arond 1 hour to change one of them.If you are thinking of changing them, you should change both at the same time. Otherwise, the old one will get too much pressure on it and may cause some problems since it is weaker than the old one.

If you have not hit something and done some severe damage, the sway bar should never wear out. It is, after all, just a solid steel rod. Joe T can supply all the worn rubber parts, and it will be nowhere near $45.00.

You are right about the 1 hour.

Does the J have a rear bar?

Well, I don't know how it happened, but one of them was broken from the top. It was 2 pieces and corrosion was everywhere, no sign of lube. It had to be changed. And you could feel how loose the other sway bar was. The tech told me to change both. I followed his comments. We have more rain and snow here in New England. That could be the reason for early corrosion?

I am not sure if J has a rear bar.

Well, there should only be one sway bar in the front, in spite of it being in two pieces. Very strange, even for salty NE.
