My 1999 I30 has a miss and the check engine light comes on under acceleration. The codes are 300 and 305. 305 is a miss in cylinder 5. 300 is a "random/multiple cylinder miss".

Does this mean that cylinder 5 is missing randomly, or that random cylinders are missing? I think if other cylinders were also missing I would get codes for them also.

The place to start with diagnosics, is the #5 (rear drivers side) cylinder. Pull the spark plug and see what's going on. Loosen the coil from the plug, pull it up a bit, see if the wire is sparking to the plug, and if when you pull the wire out far enough to make the wire lose contact with the plug; does the motor run differently?
