recently i failed my emissions and i was refered to a mechanic who cleaned my mafs, reset the ecu and adjusted my timing. two months after this ordeal, my car is now running very rough and when i press the gas it is very loud and the engine shakes, kinda like if a cylinder is misfiring. I changed all the spark plugs and still the same problem persists. I then started to pull out the spark plug wire boots one by one to see if it is the wire problems. Starting from the left, 1st on is ok, when i pull the second one there is no change in the engine, and the third and fourth are ok. I proceeded to switch the first plug wire with the second one. Then i Pulled out the 1st one and its is ok and then the second one, no change in engine vibrations. So obviously the wires and plugs are working and still the problem persists. My temperature gauge has been acting funny for the past 6 months. When the car is at idle, the gauge shows a regular temp, but when i press the gas or am at high speeds it dances around, towards the cold side of the gauge. Could this be related to the problem? I have been looking for the temp sensors on the car and i cannot find them, i followed the top radiator hose to the engine and see no wires and i've also looked it other places where they could be. Could someone tell me where the sensors are located? And is the rough engine related to the misfiring of the cylinders or timing gone bad? Help!
