Post

Hello All I recently purchased a 92 240sx fast back its got a ka24de motor in it I have plans for getting a second ka24de long block and rebuilding it and turbo charging it. However that project will take some time to complete, so i was thinking about getting a turbo kit and just setting the boost at about 6-8 psi while the second engine is being built. If I do that how important will getting an engine management system be? and What exactly does a stand alone engine management do on an OBD I vehicle is it fir the control of duty cycle on the injectors only? Will the stock MAF cap out without a performance engine management? Any recomendations for an engine managment system would be apriciated too. Thank You for any advice!

for a simple turbo set up and low boost the best route is a reflashed ecu. jwt or enthalpy can do that for you

stand alone engine management systems are just that. they replace the stock ecu and are usually configurable for multiple setup parameters. such as mafs, maps, wideband o2 sensors, different injector sizes, really the list goes on and on. stand alone systems are best for people running multiple mods and shooting for ultimate configurability and high horsepower. if you just in it to get it "tuned" and daily it with trips to the track on the side I suggest flashed ecus. generally the process is simpler and less expensive. a good tune will be safe and fun and should keep your car running for a long time provided you did good on your build and didnt cut corners. oh and the stock mafs will cap out weather you have a flashed ecu or a stand alone, when a part hits its limit there is usually nothing you can do short of replacing it with a bigger one.
