Ok, here's the scoop and a quick recap. I took my 01 Pathfinder in to have the exhaust cover tightened. When they were done the engine light was on. The code said air in line so tightened gas cap. Light went out for 5 mins then came back on. A different code and they wanted nothing to do with it. So I took it to another mechanic, a more reliable one. He ran a diagnostics and it said the same as the other one...it was the intake timing selenoid, bank 2. They changed the intake timing selenoid, engine light went out for 5 mins and came back on AGAIN! I had no money left so another diagnostics has to wait. The mechanic noted on my receipt that 'other selenoid and 2 sensors compromised.' I have NO clue what this means...but my question is this? Is there a wire or plug that could have come loose when they tighteded the exhaust cover that could be making the engine light throw out all these different codes? The mechanic did say that when one selenoid goes out another, or even all of them, will come up on code and need to be replaced. Is this correct? Please help! I don't have money to keep replacing parts!

What are the exact codes?

Google them here. NisTech wrote a nice write up of the Intake Valve TimingProblems. I've had them off and on for about three years. The truck still runsgood, and I've learned that keeping the revs above 2500, esp' on hills, keepsthe light out. Also, think about going to a heavier oil (10W-40 instead of 5W-30). The solenoids use oil pressure for power, and as the truck gets olderand the oil pressure goes down a bit, they have problems (IMHO).

Noone has given me the codes. They just tell me what's wrong and I ask them to fix it. I have to go back to the mechanic and have another diagnostic run to see which code is coming up. Shouldn't all the different codes come up at the same time? Or do I have to keep paying for each diagnostic? I'm almost ready for an oil change so I'll def. have them put in the heavier one. When I have the next diagnostics run I'll come back here and post the results. I'm just not understanding why each time I fix something the light goes out then back on with a different code.

I can't provide much input on your problem....yet anyway. But I do suggest you invest in a code reader.

I got one from Costco for about $30. Real simple - you plug it in, it shows the code and a quick description. If you need more information just ask on here or google.

They do make more complex/expensive ones but thats your call. Or you can always just go to an Autozone (or NYC equivalent) and they'll usually check the code for free.

Lots of places like Pep Boys will read out the codes for free. Get the code numbers. If the code is over P1000, ignore what they tell you it means. Those codes are vehicle specific and the generic stuff is usually wrong forNissans. Then report back the codes.

Keep it in first gear to stay over 2500 RPM.

Note: Unless you have to pass a smog inspection, this may not be somethingyou need to fix.

Ok, Auto Zone does a scan for free. The code that came up was P1145, Intake valve timing control position sensor, right bank. This is the exact code I got last time and the part that was changed. Why am I getting the same code? And who is the jerk talkin to me about lube??

The guy with the lube is telling you he thinks you are getting screwed. He probably didn't notice that you are female.

The thread slickroger pointed you at is a good one.

These valve train advance problems can be tough. I've been there, on bothsides, had both solenoids replaced, didn't fix it. I've learned to keep the lightout by not lugging it up a hill. It's passed Cailf smog test (probably the toughtestin the US) twice since it started happening.
