I took my car out today in the blizzard and noticed that the check engine light went on.

I am due for an oil change, but only about 300 miles past due.

Any ideas? It only has 7000 miles on it.

I'm assuming you meant SES light. It doesn't remind you of oil change. Go to Auto Zone and have them give you a free check on what the OBDII code is so you can have an idea of what's wrong. I was gonna do a search and give you the link to one of the posts on how to check the code yourself but apparently the search icon disappeared. I'll try to summarize:

1. don't step on the brake, press the ignition twice to "on"2. wait 3 seconds and then depress the gas fully 5 times within 5 secs3. wait 7 seconds and then depress the gas fully and hold it for 10 secs4. the SES light will start to blink slowly, count the number of blinks before the pause, that's the number (10 = 0)5. the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th set blink a little faster than the 1st set6. once you have all 4 numbers, do an internet search and you can find out what it's for, or you can go to Auto Zone as stated above and have them do it for free with a print out result

You might have to try those steps a few times before you succeed.

Check if the ECU is wet. It shouldnt happen on the new cars but on the older altimas it was somewhat common.

+1 - this is a very habitual offender - tighten it up, and if your light doesn't go off in 3 days or so, take it to the dealer.
