We took our 1999 Nissan Maxima GXE to an Uncle Ed's shop and got the oil filter replace, air filter replace, oil changed to high mileage oil, and had the fluids topped off (not literally). We tried to start it but it wouldn't catch so then the mech. said maybe something disconnected. The other mech. was working on the engine and did something we couldn't see. We started it up again and it worked after 3 tries. A couple of hours later the check engine light comes on. While the mechs. were maintaining the car the manager said there might be a messed up seal with the air filter. (bad suction) we at the present can still drive it.

Today we reset the brain of the car to shut the engine light off. It hasn't come back since so we dismissed it as a false alarm. But today we found another problem. We found that the starter motor will give out eventually because it makes a funny recoil noise after the engine starts. I would like to know if anyone knows how much a new/used starter motor is for a 1999 Nissan Maxima. Thank you for those who responded to my first notice by the way.

since the cel is on get a obd2 scanner and check bad with the code you get. while chaning the air filter they might've even damaged your maf sensor.

Thank you we just bought one from Advance Auto Parts and will be installing it soon. By the way the annoying check engine light came on. One problem solved another one discovered. I find it funny how that when it rains and you are in reverse the rear brakes squeak loudly. I wonder if any can hear it outside the car.

Yeah we consulted a manual we bought for the Maxima and the code says to much or too little flow. It wasn't specific.
