Hi there,
I own an old Nissan Terrano, R3M, 2.7, Diesel, from 1997.
The problem has to do with the fact that the yellow engine light of the car has been switching on, but on a non-continuous/intermittent way (it starts to blink, sometimes stops for a while, and starts to blink again).
Normally it happens after I am driving at about 10/15 minutes, but I was not able to establish a safe standard to when this occurs, because sometimes I can drive about 20/30 minutes with no problems and other times I can only drive about 5 minutes and the light then starts to blink.
The problem then is that the car starts to accelerate randomly by itself and, after a while, the engine simply cuts off by itself.
If I immediately try to start the car, it will start with no problem but the said problems (accelerating by itself and cutting off by itself) will more likely to persist.
But if I leave the car cut-off for a while (at least a couple of hours), I will be able to drive it for 10/20/30 minutes again, until the above scenario is repeated.
Perhaps it has to do with the engine being warm. My guess.
Given these symptoms, I went to Nissan.
I went there 4 times and, although they used the computer, they were not able to determine what the problem is.
They allege that the diagnostic of the computer detected two problems [a crankshaft problem and a throttle problem], however, according to them, if the crankshaft was damaged I would not even be able to start the car.
On the other hand, if the problem was with the throttle, the symptoms would have nothing to do with the current symptoms.
Therefore, they simply inform me that they did not know what was going on, but they believe that it has something with the fact that the sensors were damaged, most probably the crankshaft position sensor.
That is why I started to look for this part in the market, however, I was informed that this car does not have a crank position sensor.
Please help!!
