I just had my timing chain in my '89 240 done by a shop that specialized in z carsand 240's. I was away and my brother took in in for me, but to make a long sotry short the guy did a bunch of work that he was told not to, and when we wouldnt pay for it he ended up kicking my car denting the newly painted door. anyways i got the car back today and now when i am in 2nd gear and hit 2500 rpm it will hesitate and hardly accel even if i floor it. Then if i get over 3500 rpm it will lag back giving the same feeling as a governer and slowing me down 5-10 km/h. Also when it idles and about 1100 rpm the car will shake alot but then will drop to about 800 rpm and run smooth. If anyone knows what this may be please reply or email my at [email protected] ALSO IF YOU LIVE IN THE EDMONTON AREA DO NO TAKE YOUR CAR TO SUMARU'S AUTO. HE IS A CROOK WHO SHOULDNT BE ALLOWED TO RUN A BUSINESS. Thanks for your help.

Your ECU seems to be in limp home mode. Seems like this guy did more than just kick your door.

I did the self diagnosis on my ecu and the codes for the engine temperature sensor untit, exhaust gas O2 sensor circuit, and throttle position sensor unit went on. Could someone tell me if one of these would be causing the problem

Yes, all of these would be the problem.

1) Temp sensor: located between the intake manifold and cylinder head near the front of the engine right behind the power steering pump. If this sensor is bad or disconnected the ECU will think the car is cold and dump more fuel than required into it, even if its warm. Check this first. Unplug the sensor, if it is green on the inside of the connector, replace the connector. Unfortunately Nissan doesnt sell the pigtail connectors by themselvs; you will have to go to the junkyard to find one, but it doesnt even have to be the same year or even the from the same sensor. Any pigtail that style will work. Solder the new one in (butt connectors dont work worth a fart in this application).

2) O2 sensor: if your car is running super rich from the coolant temp sensor being out, this will cause this problem. You will likely want to replace your O2 sensor after you fix your coolant temp sensor. Easy easy stuff.

3) Throttle position sensor: man i wish i could tell you, i have yet to have a problem with mine. I do know that if the sensor if off, it will tell the ECU that the car is at wide open throttle (WOT) even when it is not, therefore bypassing the O2 sensors input and dumping boatloads of gas in once again.

Try the coolant temp sensor/connector then reset the ECU (unplug the batt for 20 minutes). If this makes it run better, then change the O2 sensor (the old one was likely fouled pretty bad before), reset the ECU again and check your codes. Hopefully this will solve it.

Good luck!
