I rebuilt my ka24de in my 93 240. I pressure washed the engine before disassembly. and i pressure washed the engine bay. Does anyone know what would cause it to lack power and have a slight miss. It was leaking oil from the seals and oil pan. i have had it for 3 years. i has 189,000 miles on the stock motor. everything except the valve seals and the rings barely had tension. it ran 50 times better before i put bearings and rings and gaskets in it. i am at a loss. could the bottom timing chain be off one tooth? Any ideas will help

I would check the timing, and for vacuum leaks.

And it's sort of hard to comprehend what you're saying but, is the seal leaking and lack of tension problem happening after the rebuild?

its definitly timing man...those cams can br tricky..remember that the chain tentioner will take up the slack on the chain once the car is running..so its possible to be off by a tooth and not know it.

When installing my makeshift bench fell and the caps and shims got mixed up. Could this be my prob? Would the factory exhaust and intake be diff?

I took the front covers off and everything is on the marks on the timing. I have tried every tooth on the distributor. When my engine is at top dead center on the crank the intake cam is on an angle a lil above the surface where the valve cover mounts(about 11oclock. and the exhaust lobe is pointed below the mounting surface of the valve cover (about 3oclock). From what i read people are saying the intake should be at 10 oclock and the exhaust should be at 2 oclock. It revs slow until about 2500. If i hold it at 2500 and rev it it revs easy. When driving it revs but like it is bound up? Any ideas appreciated

yes the caps not being "indexed" the appropriate connecting rod could be the problem. i know that when a motor is balanced they will punch the # on the caps & rods so that they are installed correctly to achieve the balance. but mayb take off your distributor cap & see if there is water/condensation in there. also mayb dielectric grease all the connections to your spark plugs & injectors. good luck
